Audiences and Institutions research

The age band which most is interested in cinema is 7 to 34 year olds because they have less to do and can spend their money on cinema not on a mortgage or rent for a house. The specific age group which attend the cinema the most are 15 to 24 year olds as they are old enough to get a job but not to old that they don’t have to pay any bills. The download activity compared to the cinema attendance shows that more 15 to 24 year olds download films because they know how to do that compared to older people who have no idea in to how to download a film and also older people are scared of getting caught. For 15 to 24 year olds Bruno was the most watched film by 60% because it was made specifically for that age group.  The biggest UK film for 15 to 24 year olds is the boat that rocked which got 48% of the film’s total audience. Also Hangover, Fast and Furious where big hits last year for 15 to 24 year olds. The films which appealed to an older generation are the young Victoria which is a period film made in the UK, last chance Harvey which is a romantic film. These films both fit their age group because the older generation do not want to see thriller or action packed films. The films which crossed over age groups are monsters vs. aliens because this is a film for a young audience which can’t go to the cinema on their own so have to go with their parents who are aged from 35 to 45 on average. Also other films like UP appeal to a cross audience because this is also a Childs film. This is one reason why most films for a younger audience get the most interest because there are to age gaps that will be paying compared to a thriller film which usually attracts 15 to 24 year olds. The film UP has had a big hit in the UK because it is a UK made film. The film UP’s budget was $175,000,000 and made an interest gross of $293,004,164 until the 5th of October 2009. The distributors for the film UP are Walt Disney Studio’s. The companies behind their production are Walt Disney pictures and Pixar animation studios, which both are leading production teams for younger audience’s films.  Pixar have also been involved with the making of all toy stories films, Wall.e, Cars, the Incredibles, Finding Nemo, Monsters Inc, A bug’s life and Ratatouille. Walt Disney pictures have been involved with Beauty and the Beast, Camp Rock 2 and Toy Story 3. The mission statements for both of these companies are about the same and that is to make film interesting and enjoyable for a younger audience but in the mean time make it good enough that older people like the films as well. The synergy in both of the production teams is to create an interactive website to encourage them to want to watch the film for example they make a game which evolves characters of the film to make the user watch the film to know who the characters are and the plot. They use contrasting colours to make the image stand out for example the blue UP font colour and the white background also the font style on the UP represents the use of going up because the UP font is slanted.
